You can’t go a day without hearing about Vancouver’s sky high real estate prices. Its true! One bedrooms in Vancouver are trading in the $400’s, and many times they are considered a “Value” or a “Bargain” at that! 2 bedrooms are selling for a lottery win. This is just too high for most single families, not to mention first time home buyers.
Recently, millennials have been leaving Vancouver for greener pastures, and who can blame them? But, don’t fret – there are still some pockets of hope in and around the Vancouver area. For example, if community living is important to you, I would highly recommend to make a search along the skytrain line. There are many new developments on the Cambie corridor, in addition to Richmond that are sure to please the wallet.
Take for example, my latest listing in Surrey… for $238,500 you get a newly renovated condo featuring 1256q ft, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms a den, and storage space! With only 5% down, good credit, and a job, you could be looking at under $1700/mo including your mortgage payment, strata fees, taxes and city utilities! This is cheaper than rent and is ideal for a new family. The building is good, strata is proactive, and is close to transportation, school, and is conveniently located in between the Alex Fraser Bridge and the Pitullo (So take your pick!).
